Un-Expecting

Providing support for the unexpected challenges of early parenthood.


"Un-Expecting" is a monthly workshop series for parents of babies and young children. We spend time exploring how unexpected parenting challenges impact you, your relationship, and parenting. In a low pressure space, you will be able to connect with other parents who have similar experiences. We hope you leave with confidence and insight to move forward.

Recovering from a NICU or Special Care Nursery stay

Moving forward after a baby’s unexpected medical diagnosis

Dealing with complex emotions after adoption

Healing together from postpartum mental health struggles

Understanding challenging relationships with extended family and friends after a baby

These workshops are open to both individuals and couples, with parenting partners strongly encouraged to attend together.

Healing from birth trauma

A traumatic birth experience can impact many areas of your life and family for a long time. Parents will have a chance to share stories, learn about the impact of trauma on individuals and relationships, and gain insight into healing from a traumatic birth, together.

Moving forward after a baby’s unexpected medical diagnosis

The shock and challenge around having your baby diagnosed with a medical condition can be deeply emotional and scary. Parents will have time to connect with each other and explore how this has impacted family, relationships, and parenting.

Dealing with complex emotions after adoption

Complicated emotions, even depression and anxiety, can be common after an adoption. However, it is often not expected. Parents will have time to connect with each other and explore how this has impacted their emotional wellbeing and relationships.

Healing together from postpartum mental health struggles

When a mother struggles with postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, or psychosis after having a baby, it not only impacts her, it impacts the whole family. This workshop is geared primarily towards parenting partners who are currently or have recently overcome a postpartum mental health disorder. We discuss reconnecting as a couple and gaining confidence as parents, together.

Understanding changing dynamics with extended family and friends

Often unexpected, relationships with extended family and friends can become much more complicated after having a baby. Setting boundaries with grandparents and expectations with friends can be challenging. We will process those experiences, gain insight, and confidence in setting boundaries.
